Martin Price, a Boca Raton, Florida-based entrepreneur, marketer, salesman, business consultant, author, and lecturer, began to notice billboards proclaiming “We Buy Ugly Houses” in the winter of 2011-2012, as well as small “bandit signs” proclaiming “We Buy Houses” stuck into the ground or on a power pole at what seemed like every other corner and traffic light in South Florida.
After doing some preliminary investigation, he discovered that there were numerous rival investors putting up “We Buy House” signs with their phone numbers in practically every one of the 3,000 counties and parishes in the United States.
Further examination found that there was no national program or attempt to collect leads over the internet (names and contact information of potential real estate buyers). To collect and monetize the leads, Price devised a simple strategic marketing method. He bought the domain name www.WeBuyHouses.com and built the website.
Hundreds of people from all over the country, from every state in the union, were logging on and registering their real estate for sale after seeing someone else’s We Buy Houses sign and not writing down the phone number, forgetting the number, or just assuming there was an accompanying website. After all, there was only one WeBuyHouse.com, and Price’s website was flooded with traffic from hundreds of investors and realtors.
Following that, offering an exclusive lead procurement opportunity to a Realtor in each of the 3,000-plus US counties was a breeze, and in 2017, Price sold the successful enterprise to a group of investors in Southlake, Texas, for an undisclosed sum.
