After decades of shaping soundtracks for film, television, and even a generation of kids, veteran musician and Emmy-recognized sound designer Steve Borne is stepping back into the spotlight with his most urgent and moving work yet. His new single, “March of the Mighty,” is a politically charged but deeply human song that asks listeners to see through division and recognize our shared longing for peace, dignity, and connection. The track reflects his conviction that wars fought over politics, oil, and property are waged at the expense of ordinary people and that music can remind us of what truly matters. “We are not as different as people think,” Borne says. “We’re being trained to hate each other. This song is about unlearning that.”
A Life Shaped by Music
Born and raised in New York, Steve Borne began composing melodies at his family piano long before he knew what a songwriter was. By age ten, he was playing electric guitar, inspired by The Beatles, Ron Wood, and the transformative power of rock ’n’ roll. His path would eventually take him across the country and into the first wave of the digital recording revolution as a founding team member at Digidesign (Pro Tools).
For decades, Steve also built a decorated career in sound for film and television, earning multiple Emmy-winning credits. Yet songwriting was always his anchor. He found new audiences in the 2000s through the nationally touring kindie rock phenomenon Princess Katie & Racer Steve, performing in children’s hospitals and releasing four acclaimed albums.
In 2023, a life-threatening heart condition and seven-hour open-heart surgery became a turning point. Emerging from the experience with a renewed urgency, Borne returned to writing songs not just as art, but as a responsibility.
A Song That Sees What We Try Not to Look At
With “March of the Mighty”, Borne brings that urgency to a song that blends timeless rock influences, Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Bruce Springsteen with his own personal experiences. It’s a track that doesn’t flinch from difficult truths: the cost of war, the scars soldiers carry home, the way society looks away when beauty isn’t easy.
“Profoundly powerful song + moving video! Thanks so much for sharing,” said filmmaker Bertha Pan after previewing the track and its accompanying video. The single arrives with a video that juxtaposes haunting imagery with intimate storytelling, encouraging audiences not to scroll past but to pause, reflect, and feel.
