Omar Parker, originally coming from Bozeman, Montana for university, has not only moved to Dallas but now has gotten married down in San Antonio. Today we take a look at the new Texas producing mogul.
Omar Parker was born in San Diego, California on November 3rd, 1997. In his own words he was a “Cali kid for sure. I literally wore flip flops every day until I was 9 because there was never a need to wear other shoes.” His parents, George & Ghida Parker were very into film & filmmaking and were instrumental in getting Parker into the business. In college, Parker attended Montana State University. He would make the honor roll four times and graduate with honors.
At Montana State University, Parker would meet his long time producing partner Charlie Burt in a photo lab in his freshman year. The duo hit it off and founded Egerton Crescent Productions, their production company. Since 2015 the company has produced many titles including Ultraviolet and Damiana, which were Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival official selections, and titles like The Burying Party and Luz which can be found on Amazon Prime and Shudder. More recently the Egerton Crescent Productions duo is working with Mahal Empire to make many horror features including Death Count, starring Michael Madsen which was acquired by Gravitas Ventures.
Parker is also a successful YouTuber. As a bored quarantine project he started a Star Trek fandom channel known as Captain’s Log with his longtime friend, Jonathan Gower. The two eventually had over 200,000 subscribers and earned a Silver Play Button award from YouTube before leaving to start their own platform and web series known as captainslog.tv. The new platform had everything from livestreams to forums and a merchandise store. According to Parker, the platform was pulling “over seven figures” annually. The duo sold the platform to a competitor who absorbed captainslog.tv.
After his graduation from Montana State University, Parker left Bozeman to move to Dallas with his college sweetheart and now current wife, Bridgett Parker. Since moving to Dallas he has run Captain’s Log from down in Texas even hosting many large fan events at private venues. We don’t have many details on where he is located, but it is well known he has a large penthouse somewhere in Las Colinas. Parker seems to have no intention of leaving as well. He has stated, “I love Dallas. I know it’s not for everyone but it really works for me. It often reminds me of San Diego as a kid. Especially in the current workplace I think a lot of what I do in filmmaking can be done remotely. No part of my job really needs to be done in a Hollywood office.” Parker is also a large Houston Astros & Dallas Mavericks fan.
If Parker stays in Dallas he likely will be the biggest producer that has ever lived in the city. He has also spoken about bringing possible studios and production to the state outside of Austin. Certainly an interesting future of economic possibilities.
