Gregory J. Pepe, principal with the law firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C., will co-host a legal forum at the American Society of Medical Association Counsel (ASMAC) annual meeting featuring Marcella Nunez-Smith, MD, MHS. ASMAC is an organization of approximately 145 attorneys who are employed by or work on behalf of physician and specialty medical societies and associations throughout the United States.
Attorney Pepe’s forum will focus on examining the role of systemic racism in the healthcare of people of color, a topic that many ASMAC members will be called upon to address. Topics that Dr. Nunez-Smith will cover include: (i) the issues being examined that are related to systemic racism in health care; (ii) how identification of the underlying issues are informing policy action to combat these problems, and (iii) what the administration’s policy responses might look like as these actions are rolled out.
Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Public Health, and Management at Yale University, and holds numerous other teaching, research, and leadership positions at Yale. Dr. Nunez-Smith’s research focuses on promoting health and healthcare equity for structurally marginalized populations. She was selected to serve on the Governor’s ReOpen CT Advisory Group as Community Committee chair, served as co-chair of the Biden-Harris Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board, and is currently chair of the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force in the Biden-Harris administration.
