Gebrüder Weiss, an international logistics and transport company, has opened a new office and warehouse in Laredo, Texas. This location is North America’s largest inland port and is approximately 7 km (4.3 miles) from the World Trade Crossing International Bridge. The expansion is part of Gebrüder Weiss USA’s nationwide initiative to optimize regional trade hubs for increased efficiency and provide additional access points for its customers. Gebrüder Weiss Laredo will offer road, air, and sea logistics services, including warehousing and brokerage operations, further strengthening Gebrüder Weiss USA’s presence along the Southern border.
Due to the global demand for nearshoring, there have been significant changes in the geography of manufacturing and distribution. In 2022, the trade between the U.S. and Mexico reached a record-breaking value of $779.3 billion. Laredo has become a critical Mexico/U.S. trade route focal point. This location facilitates 40% of all trade between the two countries. In 2022, this volume translated to 5.5 million trucks passing through the border town, moving products worth about $800 million daily.
“We’re delighted to open the doors to our new Laredo location, which is uniquely positioned to streamline North American trade and expand the gateway to the U.S. and Mexico from Latin America and Asia,” said Mark McCullough, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss North America.
“Nearshoring has been called a trend, but our strategy provides geographic advantages to our customers that will stand the test of time,” added McCullough.
The Gebrüder Weiss Laredo warehouse spans across 16,200 square feet of space and is situated at 14410 Industry Avenue. It features a cross-dock warehouse to manage Northbound and Southbound cargo, providing support to the 15,000 commercial trucks that cross the border every day. This warehouse is hazmat-certified, enabling it to handle both bonded and general cargo. Additionally, it boasts a Mexican customs brokerage for import/export and a U.S. customs brokerage for import/export, customs clearance, and in-bond freight.
